|
I'd like to disable my factory alarm. I have a 1998 5.2 PT 4wd. I have installed a new alarm with remote start. However, my factory alarm is still active (I have to use the factory remote to enable it or just lock the doors using the door lock switches on the doors as before.) The reason I want to disable is that if I lock the doors by pushing down on the door locks and then use the remote start, my factory alarm goes off because it thinks someone is stealing the car. I don't want to have to carry both remotes to make sure factory alarm is disabled before I remote start.
So, is there anyway to easily disable the factory alarm? Is there just a fuse/relay I could pull? Help!! Thanks!

"my factory alarm is still active (I have to use the factory remote to enable it or just lock the doors using the door lock switches on the doors as before.)"
So you're saying the factor alarm doesn't activate when you use the aftermarket fob? Why lock the doors with the switches? Just get in the habit of using arming with the aftermarket fob. The way my Clfford interfaces, if the factory is armed by the fob or the switches, then I arm the Clifford, it kickes the factory alarm off. If I do the Clifford first then the factory fob, which I don't do, both are armed but if I disarm with the Clifford fob, both turn off.

Both my alarms are active. I didn't install, a shop did. They don't even bother with the factory alarm, just install new one (Prestige.) So, both alarms operate independently (not what I want.) So, if I arm the factory one (by locking the doors either through factory remote or by pressing down on door locks) and then use the remote start on the Prestige alarm, the factory alarm thinks the car is being stolen and sets off the horn. This happened to me three times on Sunday night. I couldn't go anywhere and had to wait until Monday morning to call alarm installer to figure out what happened.
I usually always lock the doors with the Prestige remote, but sometimes I push down on the door locks. I don't want to have to worry aobut this anymore, just would like factory alarm disabled. Suggestions?
Also, my courtesy lights on my front doors don't work anymore (when you open doors, lights don't come on.) Back doors and tailgate work fine, just not front doors. I could've SWORN they worked before new alarm installed, but installer said they didn't work before and that he didn't mess with them. Said they're on same circuit as other courtesy lights so that if they messed with thme, none of the courtesy lights would go on. Does this make sense? Suggestions? HELP!!

I have the same problem. I bought my D this last fall and I found out the hard way that both the stock alarm and an aftermarket alarm are active. It doesn't bother me so much now except when other people push the lock button. I was actually thinking of taking the aftermarket alarm off and just using the stock one. But since I didn't get any stock key fobs and only one key fob for the alarm I guess I'll have to keep it for now. I'd be interested if anyone knows a way to shut off the stock alarm without messing up something else.

I don't know for certain, but once the alarm is enabled in the Grand Cherokee through the DRB, it can't be disabled. The PCM must be replaced. I'd imagine your D is the same way. Sorry.

The alarm isn't in the PCM. You can switch PCMs without affect on the alarm working or not working. The PCM part numbers don't differentiate for alarm / no alarm but something is set in the PCM when's used in a vehicle that has the factory alarm. If you take a PCM from a vehicle it that has the alarm, it won't work with a vehicle that doesn't have the alarm.

There's a wire in the drivers kick panel located in a black plug that's lightGreen/orange stripe. That's the factory disarm. On the prestige alarm remote start, there's a wire you can connect to it that'll disarm the factory alarm before starting.
Hope this help.
