The system is under pressure.. you need to have the system discharged before you disconnect anything.. unless all your refrigerant has leaked out already..

You also need to make sure the new compressor has the *same* amount of oil in it as the old one.

If the connections use gaskets (I think they do, but I'm not sure), the gaskets will need to be replaced (they are one-time gaskets).

Cleanliness is EXTREMELY important in AC systems.

You might want to talk to an AC shop first before you start..
