134a is environmentally safe... for now anyway. It has no chlorine in it like r12 and r22. It is always a good idea to have someone retrieve it when possible. But be careful of any pressure left in the system. I am not familar with the Durango AC system yet, but most systems today don't use gaskets anymore, all Orings.James
