OT: How do you know if Master Cylinder is bad?

Neighbor pulled up last night streaming something from his car and bounced the tires off the curb to stop. I decided to help and am now stuck. one of the hard brake lines going to the driver's rear corner sprung a leak. I got that fixed no problem. Refilled system. bled the air on all 4 corners. and still can push the pedal to the floor. It's a 1991 Grand Am without ABS. What am I missing here?
