Maybe it could be a fuel pressure problem.
The next time the D sits for several days, cycle the key off and on several times before attempting to start. Maybe 5 seconds on, 5 seconds off. repeat seveal times. Then attempt to start.
Everytime you cycle the key "on", the fuel pump runs 2-5 seconds to prime the system. Maybe the fuel pump is getting weak and needs several times to properly presurize the system to start. I am not sure about your particular vehicle, but most have a fuel pressure regulator to obtain the proper operating pressure. Maybe it is not holding properly.
You can buy a fuel pressure gauge from Sears for about $30. You may need to hook it up and monitor the fuel pressure during your time of trouble.
