If you plan on towing regularly, I'd suggest the 2500 with the Cummins.

I think if you hunt around... You'll find the price difference between the 1500s and 2500s not that great... And the price between the diesel and gas isn't as much as people think that it is.

I can pull 8,000 lbs uphill in OD at 70 mph and still get between 10-14 mpg towing (depends on many conditions).

If you don't tow regularly, get whichever you can get the best deal on.
