Some of you may have read my post below regarding the Check Engine Light for a Bad evaporator purge solenoid circuit or driver. Well, the dealer took a look today and said that they are going to replace the Evaporator Purge Solenoid. The part I didn't understand was this:
They said that sometimes the solenoid going bad will damage the PCM, and they may have to replace the entire PCM, but they won't know until after they fix the Solenoid.
Does that make sense? Is that even possible? Could he have gotten confused with it and really it's that the PCM may be bad and they're going to replace to Solenoid first to rule it out? That makes no sense to me. Does it make sense to anyone else? I'm not very educated on this, so maybe it's possible. Looking for input...
Also, for the idle problems, They're saying it failed the air-flow test with and without the air filter (which is an IP Stage II), so they want to do a fuel-system cleaning, Throttle Body Cleaning, and De-Carb of the engine and they think that will take care of it.
They also noticed a new issue. The Transmission Pump is leaking. They said it's most likely a bad seal that costs about $60 in parts, but a ton in labor and they'd need it a couple days to fix it. Oh Boy! Holding off on this one for now since they said it's more of an "ooze" than a "leak". I still have some time on that one so I can figure out how to pay for that too.
Any feedback on the PCM/Solenoid issue though?
A new Ram is sounding better and better every day!
