Not sure which engine you have but I had a real problem with rear main seal leaks on a DAK with the 5.2. There have been several reports of plenum gasket (bellypan gasket) leaks on the forum over the years.
I got a bad piniging under load when mine were leaking but none of the symptoms that you describe.
