tranny with rpms hunting?

So I'm finally able to drive again (hernia & shoulder surgery 2 weeks ago), and now noticed how crappy the transmission seems to be acting (2000 Durango R/T w/ 65k). When driving at a steady state cruise (45-60 mph), and breathing on the throttle a little, the rpm will spike 200 rpm, and come back down. Can this be the torque converter lockup not working properly? Sometime when accelerating onto the highway, it'll drop down into 1st instead of upshifting into 3rd, and buzz the rev limiter. Is that the kickdown cable that should be adjusted (backed off a little?). Finally, 1st 30k service, I changed the filters & fluid myself, but did not adjust the bands. This time I took it to a service station for the filter/fill, since the factory procedure has you adjust the bands at the same time. Unfortunately, the monkeys decided it was fine, and didn't bother doing it. Argh.I've seen some posts about bad valvebodies & sensors in the tranny, but can't seem to find them with this archive system. Any thoughts as to what those symptoms are? Thanks guys!
