Wind noise follow up

Okay, I took the D out for an extensive test drive. The "wind noise" I have been describing sounds either like turbulence or harmonic vibration. It clearly seems to come from the front end of the D. It is unrelated to engine speed (rpm) and not affected by how windy it is outside. There was no wind at all last night, yet it happened. It is too infrequent to be caused by the windshield seam, I guess. If the windshield was the culprit, would not the noise be there all the time above a certain speed? It occurs between 50 and 70+ miles and hour and comes and goes. Road noise can be ruled out. I have been driving the same road under the same conditions last weekend and the noise was not there.Well, the D is going in the shop tonight anyway (passenger seat started creaking, some rocking as well) so I will have them test drive it.
