Hi Jason:
Looks like you are getting good info as usual in reply to your request from the group.
Our Durangos came with either the 3.55 or the 3.92 gear from DC. The 3.55 was the standard or baseline ( for the V8 motors anyway) so you have one or the other.
As you have seen, the cost of a gear swap is not a cheap mod and the cost is doubled with a 4x4.
Since the cost of the labor is the same regardless of the gear you choose, I think that one would want to go at least a.5 (or half a driveshaft turn per 1 turn of the rear wheels) up or down to make the swap worthwhile.
My D has the 3.55's, and it would seem silly to me to go up to anything less than a 4.10, or down to less than a 3.08.
If you don't find the gear info in the glove box, check the driver side of your axle housing right behind the backing plate and see if there is a label there. It will read either 3.55 or 3.92 and then be followed by the phrase open carrier or Anti Spin.
If by chance you already have the 3.92, changing to a 4.10 is next to no change at all in which case I would think that a 4.56 would be the next choice.Good luck with your decision.
