The only known cause of center-wear that I'm aware of is (as you said) over-inflation. However, 34-36psi is perfect... Do you live in a warm climate? Did you measure the tire pressure cold? Maybe the pressure cold is 35psi, but when they get hot on the freeway it's up to 42psi or so?

The cupping/chopping in the front is probably due to your shocks, alignment or balancing. Mine cupped pretty badly until I got the Bilsteins. Some 4x4's always cup their tires, just because of the suspension geometry. I don't think the Durango is a serial tire cupper, though.
