I think with just one window open fully, you disturb the airflow, with max turbulence right at the window. Probably happens with any window if it was the only one open, but you're only near the driver's side, so that's what you notice most. I've seen/heard it too. Just cracking open another window (I usually use the rear passenger side) quiets things down immensely.
I agree with Sherry and Susie - with the Weatherflectors, you can open just one window a bit and not incur the blast of noise.
