If you think about it, you are behind this thing hundreds of hours driving, idling, sitting, and with power attached and we don't even bat an eye. Once we say, disconnect the neg battery cable, we are afraid to touch the things. In my mind, driving behind it is more dangerous than removing it with the power off.
My dealer wanted $250 to replace my clockspring on my GC. I went to the parts department and bought the CS for $38, purchased a $7 steering wheel puller and did it myself in 30 minutes.
The wood/custom wheels are expensive. You may want to consider $125 for a new leather OEM one from www.dodgeparts.com. Better yet, email Jeff Hunter at Hendricks (Jeffrey.Hunter@HendrickAuto.com) and I bet the price would be less.
