2000 Durango Loses Heater Directional Control

Yesterday morning, as I was driving down the highway, I heard a hiss and all the directional controls that route the air either to the dash or the defroster or floor dropped out. The blower was still running, but no air was being directed. I can turn the knob to Max AC and I will get air to blow from the dash vents, but only in that condition. This morning I had the same thing, I had control for about 10 minutes and then it all dropped out. I was hoping that this is realated to the weather, 6 F yesterday and -4 F today, but I am guessing that I am losing vacuum. Any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting. I am going to get a Chilton's manual tonight, but some expert help would be nice. Thanks all!
