The legality of lights changes from state to state but most are fairly similar. According to the Mississippi Rules of the Road title 63, the back up lights can be any color so long as they can not be operated unless the vehicle is in reverse. You will have to check with your state to be sure though. In Mississippi that is the only light that can vary from other section which says that any light that can be seen from the front of the vehicle must be white or amber, and reflector on the front which can be seen from the side must be amber, and reflector that can be seen from the side near the rear must be red and any light on the rear of the vehicle must be red or amber.
