I need to offer my own experience here...

I live at the top of a hill and when I'm in a hurry to get home, I get on it up the hill, then slow down fast to turn into my driveway. Most everytime I do this, I get the bad rotten egg smell. I'm thinking this is from the sudden change in exhaust flow/fuel flow change and then immediate idle condition and shutdown. I've also smelled it when neighbors do the same thing. Don't know the exact cause, but I've noticed it on every vehicle I've owned since living here for the last 23 yrs and have never had a problem mechanically or with annual emission testing. I'm thinking it's just normal under certain conditions. YMMV
