you can use a standard receiver hitch with a regular ol' hitch pin to anchor a tow strap. You can buy those special hooks or d-rings that connect to the receiver hitch, but a hitch pin works fine and costs only a couple bucks.

I used this arrangement to tow this car out of a rut that was at the edge of a 20 foot dropoff on the outside of a mountain road in the Superstition Mountains here in AZ the day after Thanksgiving. I still can't figure how he got stuck there since the dropoff was scary. His daughter claimed they were unable to go to the inside, but the outside line was much worse. He was very grateful, and should have been since we were about the last vehicle down the road that night.
