Dodge Durango Forum II

Saw an '04 in person today,...

I went to the local dealer to buy some parts. There it was, sitting on the showroom floor. It was the only model they had, the bare bone 4.7, two wheel drive. Since it was on the floor, I did not get a chance to drive it.

Maybe it was the whole showroom setting, but to me it looked a lot better than the photos. I think it could grow on me. I still do not like the front end. It needs to be longer. The hood is too sloped for my liking. The engine sets too far back in the engine compartment. Like someone said, too difficult to work on.

The interior is nice, but I do not like the plastic behind the front seats. That should be replaced with pockets or at least a cargo net. I was also disappointed in the rear. The spare tire is so visible. Perhaps a tow hitch would hide it more. I looked under it and saw two mufflers. One about mid carriage, and one behind the axle.

I think Dodge can easily fix the cosmetics. Give it a level hood, and push the front end out until it's almost over the bumper, (kind of like our Ds and the Dakotas) and give it a lower rear fascia.

Infact, some enterprising fiberglass body part manufacturer could whip up a good kit to deal with the whole thing. I could see it with a level scooped or shaker hood. Maybe two long scoop intakes that level out as they go forward. I'd love to see it with 20" or larger wheels, and dual exhaust pipes. Maybe Shelby Stipes.

I'm still in love with mine, but if Dodge makes a few of these cosmetic changes, I might be changing my mind.
