The problem is - assuming the car you are towing is not driveable (which it never is, otherwise why would you be towing it?) then it has no POWER BRAKES or steering - unlike your Durango.
So what will happen is you see somebody going down the road towing a car, and you see the guy in the tow vehicle suddenly have to stop or change lanes - and then you see the guy in the car in the back freaking out as he can't stop / can't turn, and wathc in amusement as he plows into the tow vehicle.
Tow straps are for unsticking stuck vehicles and distances of less than 100 feet. Anything more than that just isn't a good idea.
