Dodge Durango Forum II

Another option is studs.

Might I suggest that you look into studded tires instead of chains? You can pick up a set of Dodge wheels pretty inexpensively and mount the studs on those. Then when it gets snowy or icy you can slap the studs on and go on your merry way. The advantage of the studs over chains is that you can leave them on for extended periods of time unlike chains. I have a set of studded Pirelli Norsemans on Durango wheels and when we go over the Cascasde passes I just put them on. If the weather report shows snow or icy conditions for an extended period of time, I slap them on. Then when the weather clears up where I can put the regular tires back on, I just switch. Some folks put their studs on at the beginning of winter and leave them on until spring, but if there is no snow or ice, that just tears up the highways, so I put them on only when necessary.
