Re: tow hook

I added a tow hook to my 1998 Durango.

I had to drill two holes in the trailer
hitch to mount the darned thing and let
me tell you, that trailer hitch is made
out of some serious metal.
(adamantium? Unobtanium? )

You can do the same or have it done. Or
you can use the draw bar hook you mention.
2500 pounds is more than it sounds. For example
if you were pulling a civic it would be fine,
you are not trying to lift it clean off
of the ground. Besides, the published limit
is sort of a suggestion with safety margins
built in. (not that I recommend exceeding it!) ;^)

On the front be carefull. At least on a 98 the
front ends of the frame are "horns". There is
nothing between them. If you mount a hook there
and then pull off-axis (diagonal or sideways)
you can bend the end of the frame. Dodge makes a
kit that includes a bar to connect the horns and
I would recommend that.

I am not sure that the new/2004 frames are the same,
but this is what I know.
