AWD doesn't much affect the mileage, and is a nice setup driveability-wise.

I really like the 2003, so much so that I traded my '99 for one.

the seller needs to be aware that you can buy that rig brandy-new off the lot for about $30 without breaking a sweat.

but most important:

do NOT get yourself into an uncomfortable financial situation on a car. You'll resent the car, you'll hate yourself, and life will not be pleasant. If you don't feel confortable with it, let it go.
