My Overhead Temp Guage on my 98 "D" never goes higher than 88 deg?

I live in the Sanfernado Valley of Los Angeles... and recently it has been well over 100 degrees, although my gauge goes under 88 Degrees it never goes over anymore...

This hase been happening over the last month or so, any idea's of why or what i would need to do to change the sensor?
