You said the battery strains... I assume you mean you see your voltage drop and/or the lights dim a bit? When that happens can you hear the motor in the door turning or is it not turn at all? I would think that if you hit the switch and the load is evident... then I would look for something preventing the window from sliding. Usually when a switch or the motor go bad... you won't notice the extra load on the system.
