Changing the plugs and/or the thermostat can only help. If you can, while changing the plugs, run a compression test on all cylinders of your engine. This will tell you id there is another problem cropping up by finding any weak or out of range cykinders. Look for even pressure from all cylinders. Any difference over say 15% between cylinders and you should get the engine checked out more thouroughly. Good luck.
