Transmission/torque converter

My 2000, 5.2, just had the torque converter come unglued at 44k. It wouldn't shift in lower speeds, worked fine on freeway though. At first dealer couldn't find the problem and then they decided it was the electronic signal, until they dropped the pan and found all the metal in it. The D is now having a new TC and the tranny completely rebuilt. This to a tune of over 2500 dollars. The rear passenger window motor is also being replaced, again. All covered by the extended warranty, except for 50 dollar co-pay. Just a note, the D had been in many times before with a shifting problem and of course nothing could be found. Anyone else had a similar problem?
