Re: Wiring troubles...

Whatever you or anyone else does the first thing to do is diagnos the problem rather than just start rewiring. If you have a test light, test the prongs on the durango. Have someone apply the brake or manualy activate the brake controller and see if the appropriate prong comes hot. If it does, the problem is in the trailer. Jack up one wheel (with brakes) on the trailer and give it a spin while a helper activates the brake control. If it grabs even a little, either the trailer brakes or electric brake control needs adusting. I'd say 90% of the time problems are either in the plug, or where the ground wire attatches, either at the car end or the trailer end. Make sure those prongs make good contact with the holes they fit in, and that all corrosion is cleaned away. Now, if you've determined that the car side is good, and you have a good connection, remove the cover from the trailer side plug and slide it back along the harnes exposing the screws where the wires attach. Touch the screw that the brake wire hooks onto with your circuit tester to see if you have currant there. If not, the problem is in the plug. If you do, go back to where the wire goes to the electro magnet in the trailer brake (either side) and see if electicity made it that far back. If not, the problem is between there and the plug, if there is currant making it to the brakes, the problem is in the magnet or the trailer brakes are way out of adjustment.
