(Washington-AP, July 21, 2003 9:20 PM) _ There may be a defect in the Dodge Durango that led some drivers to lose control of the SUV.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says four drivers have reported the failure of an upper ball joint on the Durango's front suspension.
In two cases, the front wheels separated from the vehicle. In the other two cases, the front suspension collapsed. All four drivers lost control, but no injuries were reported.
The government has also gotten 81 complaints about the SUV's front suspension ball joints wearing out prematurely.
The agency is investigating Durangos from model years 1998 through 2003.
