I have first hand experiance on this issue. I blew a headgasket and overheated mine too.

First of all if you drove it until it stalled. You drove it hot, but I'd stick to the version of the story you to John F. I didn't push mine that hard. So here's what happened to me.

When I noticed my temp gauge it was almost maxed out and I was on the freeway a mile or so away from an exit. All this time I'd kill the engine and coast until I had to gain some speed. By the time I exited it had maxed out. I drove it another 1/4 mile or so until I found a suitible spot to stop. I let it cool down for a half hour or more. Then added more water and continued on my way. 20 miles later it did it again. But this time I got off the freeway and stopped quicker this time. Luckily I was only 40 miles from home. So I didn't let it happen again.

The results of my experiance were. The heads were cracked in 6 places. Requiring new heads. They crack inbetween the vavles. It's typical of overheating. When itoverheated and blew out all the water. The sudden overpressure to the system blew out the seal on the waterpump. Requiring a new waterpump. Also typical.

Total cost $2500. And a week without my D. So that's why I'd stick to the I didn't drive it hot, story. I sure didn't tell my ext. warrenty co. or the mechanics that I'd been pulling my travel trailer and running the D hard for the last 300 miles of a 1200 miles.

If they make you pay for it yourself. Don't let them do it. Have a private shop(or a trusted friend) do it. You'd save a bundle. A bundle that you could spend on some Fastman heads and other goodys!
