Sounds to me as if the tires are severely under inflated. But that would be too obvious and any tire shop would pick up on that, right?
Are they checking for the rubbing with the truck on the ground or on a lift? If the truck is on a lift, the suspension will be extended as if it has had a lift done already and rubbing will not be evident. I would suggest going to another shop and getting another opinion.
