The plasticizer from the dash aren't the "only" cause of this.

The plasticizers "burn off" from heat and UV exposure after about a year but you'll notice the haze keeps coming back.

Two common causes are

- cigarette smoke (for those of you who allow smoking in your D)
- use of Armor-all, or similar "silicone" UV protective products

The problem with Armor-all and similar products is the silicone compotents break down under prolonged exposure to heat and UV, just like the plasticizers, and also create a "hard to clean off" haze on the windshield!

When I was in the Air Force they had a special "non-silicone" UV protective they applied to plastic surfaces inside fighter aircraft specifically to prevent formation of this haze on the inside of the canopy. Thing is this stuff had a "government" label on it and I have no idea who really makes it or if it's even available out here on the open market? In the meantime, I haven't used any of those silicone products on my dash and, since the plasticizers burned off, haven't had any problem with haze forming on the inside of my windshield.

Now the "outside" of the windshield is another story! I use a heavy application of Windex with a terry cloth to remove the bugs and then follow it up with Stoner's "invisible glass" and newspapers to remove any smears and haze.
