Problem starting on initial try, then starts fine thereafter

If I try to start the D after it has sat for a few hours or overnight, it takes about 5 seconds of cranking to start. If I turn the key and let the engine crank for 3 seconds without starting, then turn the key again it starts right up like it used to. I cleaned the IAC valve (there was a lot of carbon) and throttle body with GUMOUT carb cleaner and tested the valve operation. The valve is working correctly and the battery has proper voltage. Can anyone help with the next troubleshooting step?
