cleaning of engine compartment & engine?

hey guys,

i'm planning on cleaning my engine & compartment? and wondering what should i look for and what should i use to clean it.. i can see that the "alternator" is pretty open..

any suggestions? should i bring it to a carwash guys? i can't do it myself for i have no access in hose and water.. does it have to be pressurized? do i need to spray it with gas before water?
