If you have never driven in the snow, that may not be the best place to learn. The D is certainly able to handle the run, depending on the level of snow. There will be a few areas where you would have some difficulty with traction.
If you do go, be sure to take a set of chains with you, as well as a shovel and tow strap.
Trial riding in the snow can be a blast if you know the trail. But also very dangerous if you slide off.
Also go prepared with warm clothes and enough food and water for a couple of days in case you get stranded. Always play it on the safe side.
(If there is less than 6" of snow, I would go for it.)
