Leaky gaskets

It may not be your situation but it is definitely within the realm of possibility. I can't speak to the scientific support for precombustion but I can say that the leak was definitely related in some fashion to the ping-symptom each time.

The first time it happened was with only 10K original miles. The report we got was that the gasket must have been installed with a crimp in it therby causing the ultimate leak. The second failure was 85K later so probably just age.

Hope yours is something simpler.
