Re: Ping under load. Could it be caused by the location of the IAT sensor?

Pre-ignition isn't caused by colder air, but by igniting the fuel too early in the cylinder. Generally caused by heat and low octane fuel and load. That said, it can also be caused by vacuum leaks leaning out the fuel-air mixture, as when the belly pan gasket leaks as our engines are kinda noted for doing. Check for the gasket leak, try a cooler thermost, or 3923 autolite sparkplugs(colder heat range and different tip exposure). Not that moving the IAT isn't a good idea. Good luck.
