If I use the stock 55/85w bulbs I can make both high and low beams come on at the same time by using the flash-to-pass feature. Pulling the turn signal stalk back just far enough to tun on the highs and keep the lows. The lows turn off when you activate the highs to stay on, passing the "click" of pulling the turn signal stalk all the way. I don't want to drive like this all the time, I live in an area with poor street lighting and would like to add more illumination to the road as I travel up the hill to my house. I just feel the high beams alone don't do the trick. We also have a Chevy Trailblazer which has a fantastic light spread with it's stock bulbs and headlights.
