Where I can, I use Mobil exclusively (of course it helps to get 3% back with the Mobil Mastercard :-)) ). But recognize that Mobil and Exxon are the same company and the gasoline probably all comes from the same refineries.
Ditto with Shell and Texaco - they're one company. Chevron is part of that mix as well.
So, we undid Standard Oil a hundred years ago, and they're all coming back together. Sounds a lot like the telephone companies, doesn't it?
I really don't know if you are going to see significant differences among all the major players, other than advertising and prices, of course. The majors are chopping up the country to minimize transportation costs. Shell, Texaco, and Chevron are virtually gone from the NorthEast. Mobil ih hard to find South of MD, and Exxon isn't far behind. I think the West is pretty much dominated by Union 76, Chevron, and Shell. Joe
