It depends on your state. In Hawaii it's illegal not to have hi-beams. I was mentioning that to folks who bought the initial Xenon Ultra Blue or Ultra White which are nothing close to HIDs and actually put out less light that the 9007s. I was one of them until I went to pass the safety check and didn't pass the light test as the output was way below minimum - hey but they looked blue...8-(

They have indeed recently come to the market as AFTER market parts and not legal for street use. What really is the key here is that HIDs (and for those of you who have been with the Club a while, you may recall my raising this in a list of wishes for DC to incorporate for future Ds  like: lifting tail glass window, electric spare lower, locking gas cap...) is the whole assembly: mirror, glass etc has to be aligned and fitted for the HID "bulb". And I place "bulb" in "" as it's not really a filament as a traditional bulb. To simply place the ignitor, ballast and bulb in the existing setting may place your beam all over the place.

Anyway everyone can make their own decision. Just research it first, I'd spend 900 bucks on other things personally (if I had it...)
