To a certain extent that's true about a lot of different brands going thru the same pipeline. However, where the difference comes in is at the distribution centers where different additives are added to different brands of gas. While all the gas in the pipelines may be the same (or at least similar), the gas in a Chevron truck has different additives than the gas in a Shell or Exxon truck.
The bottom line is that all the major manufacturers produce a good grade of gas. What you want to steer clear of is the discount gas like ARCO, supermarket brands, etc.
