More on tranny fluid

I am reading the last post about trany fluids, and pretty much swallowing hard the more I read. I did not know that the d's need to use the ATF fluids. I have been going to a local Chevron lube oil change place and they have been putting Dextron in the tranny since I have had the first tranny fluid change. My D has 50000 it's a 99 SLT. I guess I trusted them to much. So the question I have is what kind of damamge will this do on the tranny? My warranty is out. But I think I will take my D to the dealer and see what kind of damage is done and then go talk to Chevron and have them replace my tranny. If anyone know about the damage done let me know. This
