MOre on heated mirror question

So we got out early today, and it was a balmy 50 degrees, I popped off the mirror and put an ammeter in series with the line. It drew 3.1A I couldn't feel the mirror heat up any but I doubt it would be all that noticable. Perhaps I have a bad connection? Is the heat element replacable seperate from the mirror? Aftermarket?
At this point, I think I'll see what it does next time I need it.Happy New Year to all,
