I can't answer either of your questions with much confidence, so I will leave it to someone else to answer. I can't imagine it's good to drive the D in that condition, because you're probably experiencing quite a bit of slippage. It will do damage/wear over time, but if your dealer is pretty close to home it might be ok. You say it shifts ok in 2, 3 and 4?Sorry I don't have a more definitive answer for ya.
