Yeah, I think your are right that the only possibility for using chains up front is with the cable type chains. I do remember someone posting his experience using chains on the front tires, and he sustained some damage. I bought a pair of the V-bar chains from tirechain.com and have used them on the rear with the 31x10.5 stock tires. They cleared fine on the rear, until I got the 32x11.50 BFG's, and now those chains will rub badly, so I can't us 'em. There would be no chance of using these chains up front.
I don' have any experience with the diamond chain. I'd suggest the V-bars for the rear, & a cable type chain for the front. Depending on your intended use, studded snow tires might be a good alternative.Good luck, & have fun in snow!
