Okay, the talk about the airbox is what confused me.  On the first attempt I have found that a large screwdriver behind the light assembly right next to the ball socket works well.  After the scredriver is back there you just have to pull forward a tad and it pops right out.

BTW, an aftermarket intake is the way to go.  It also makes changing plugs and such much easier, not to mention letting the beast breath a little better.
