Re: OT: Has anyone ever used the one of those A/C conversion kits from R12 to 134a? Did they work well over time?

in a word, yes. Besides, due to the price difference in the freon,it's really the only way to go. The kits are only about 25.00, and there is about 60.00 a pound price difference in the freon.
