Wheel stud removal question

Discount Tire crossthreaded a lug nut for me, so how do you remove the stud? Just hit it with a big hammer and punch? Anybody done this on the D? It's the rear-driver's wheel. I am currently running without the nut on the stud. Got it off, but can't put it back on.
