I replaced my OEM head unit with a JVC Tuner/Tape Deck/CD Controller & Alpine equalizer...

and connecting the equalizer's RCA pre-outs to the OEM amp worked just fine. Since no one, as far as I know, makes an adapter harness that includes RCA style connectors, you'll need to attach your own to the appropriate wires on the adapter to get it to work, but it's easily doable.

As for the OEM amp's specs, I have no idea but can state that, with my equalizer set properly, this setup improved the sound quality tremendously - including a nice "clear" window/mirror rattling base if I crank it up. Others who've had the chance to personally heard my setup were "very" impressed with the sound quality and astounded that it was coming from the OEM amp and speakers!

It's obvious to me that the whole problem with the very poor OEM sound quality is the head unit and not the amp/speakers.
