All the information are from WHOIS databases.  These databases are publically viewable by anyone who wants to use them.

I originally tried a whois call from one of my machines and did not get far since Network Solutions blocked my IP. (They do not appear to like it if you do not play by THEIR rules.)

Probably the easiest way to get WHOIS, DNS, IP Block, etc information for domains is through a couple online resources such as samspade.org/ and network-tools.com/ .
NOTE: network-tools.com/ gives the same message about blocked IP address
